We strongly encourage all contributors to take advantage of our free copy editing services. Email your draft to our copy editors before 4 p.m. at Once edited, your draft will be returned to you later that same evening.

Copy editors edit for spelling, grammar, and to ensure your article follows Associated Press guidelines. We provide services Monday through Friday, except Tuesday. Be transparent

Always use your real name on the site.

If you’re writing about an issue, business, or event with which you are affiliated, please let everyone know how you’re connected. We also recommend editing the “about me” section of your profile to include any affiliations if you plan on writing about the same topic often.

If you have a strong bias on the issue, that’s fine – we love passionate contributors. However, please label your article accordingly by putting “[OPINION]” at the start of your headline.

Avoid posting “advertorials”

We do not allow self-promotion. Stories that read like advertisements will be taken down immediately.

Nonprofit organizations,  fundraising events, and certain events such as theater productions or other community events may be exempt from this rule. Please email with questions.

If you are posting a press release, please modify the text so that it reads like an article. Should you have questions, email or better yet, send your article in for copy editing.

We love photos and videos!

Photos and videos enhance your article by allowing you to share a more complete story. NJTODAY.NET encourages you to sign up for a free Flickr or YouTube account to host your photos or videos, and use the embed codes provided by those sites to place them in your articles.

All posted photos must be credited. Those not credited or inappropriately credited will be removed, as it is illegal for us to share them on our site. Public domain photos must also be credited appropriately. Email with any questions.

We encourage you to use actual photos and ask that you please avoid using graphics or fliers. These make your piece feel like an advertisement and are unlikely to be featured.
