Well…I just saw the video for the remake of “We Are The World”, celebrating it’s 25th anniversary, just in time for them to latch Haiti on as their cause-du-jour.
Nearly three weeks ago Toyota announced the recall of about two million cars. Since then they have recalled thousands of Acuras. Now the newest edition the Prius is being recalled in large quantities. During this time all of the vehicles have been permitted to remain on the highways and Toyota is now beginning to repair some of the cars.
Most people do not read history books on economics, yet this has a great effect on life in general.
Cigarettes are the means of distribution and consumption of an addictive drug called nicotine and they kill 400,000 people a year. I gained 50 pounds when I stopped smoking, so I can attest that it is hard to give ’em up. Now corporate managers can in effect buy elections directly. The U.S. Supreme Court has just handed much more power to the small sector of the population that dominates the economy.
Precisely because Americans are easily distracted—because, as study after study shows, they are clueless about their rights—and because the nation’s schools have ceased teaching the fundamentals of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights—the American governmental scheme is sliding ever closer toward authoritarianism.
While some may say the recession is over, jobs are still scarce and many still feel the pinch. If you’re looking for extra income, an interesting hobby or a new business, why not try farming?
We should pay careful attention to the message of the Massachusetts election. And that message is to focus on the economy. To make sure that we have jobs programs that can put millions of people back to work.
