UNION COUNTY – The Union County Senior Softball League seeks players for its competitive slow pitch softball season in both the 50+ Division (birth year of 1960 or earlier) and the 60+ Division (birth year of 1950 or earlier.)
ELIZABETH—Union County’s One-Stop Career Center has moved to a new location in Elizabeth at 921 Elizabeth Avenue. The One-Stop offers free services and training for job seekers every weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and remains open until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. English and Spanish are spoken.
SCOTCH PLAINS – Middle school students throughout Union County may learn about sustainability this fall by building their own wind turbines and cooking with solar energy. The hands-on activities took place during a “Green Boot Camp” for middle school teachers. The camp was developed through a partnership between Honeywell and Union County Vocational-Technical Schools, to help middle school teachers learn about the latest green education tools.
UNION – Kean University held commencement ceremonies for its graduate and undergraduate students in May. Among the degree recipients were more than 600 students who graduated with honors, the largest group in the university’s history to graduate with distinction.
ELIZABETH – The Union County Clerk has warned owners of commercial and residential property in the county to beware of people who offer to sell them a certified copy of the deed to their property. Some of these companies are targeting non-English-speaking homeowners.
