EDISON—Ruth Candeub Avins, a resident of Edison, will be one of 10 volunteers from across the country to be honored at the Senior Medicare Patrol National Conference in Washington, D.C. this month. The program, funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging, educates seniors to protect themselves from fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicare and Medicaid.
CLARK – The Union County Summer Arts Festival 2009 concert series continues on Wednesday evening, Aug. 19, with music by The Nerds. This free concert of rock and rollicking hit songs at Oak Ridge Park in Clark begins at 7:30 p.m.
TRENTON –A Newark man was sentenced for participating in a staged accident ring, Attorney General Anne Milgram and Criminal Justice Director Deborah L. Gramiccioni announced last week. He had been on trial with his two brothers, but all three pleaded guilty on April 14 as the lengthy trial neared its end. His brothers were sentenced to prison last month.
RAHWAY – As part of their “Week of Mary” program, the Sts.Mary/Mark Parish, will hold an outdoor Candlelight Procession at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 232 Central Ave., Rahway, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, according to Fr. Dennis Kaelin, pastor.
ELIZABETH—Navy Ensign Adriano M. Silva, a 1998 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Elizabeth, recently reported for naval aviator training at Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas.
LINDEN—The Linden Police Department’s Juvenile Bureau recently held G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Summer Camp. The program fostered the goal of helping students make positive choices and develop life-long skills.
RAHWAY – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway invites the community to learn about the hospital’s current operating position as well as new and enhanced healthcare services at the hospital’s annual meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. in the main conference room on the main level.
Aug. 4 at 4:21 p.m. – Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the vicinity of Lake Avenue and Meadow Road. One patient was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at New Brunswick and one patient was transported to Overlook Hospital in Summit.
