STATE -- Thousands of New Jersey residents are without power this morning as a result of an ice storm. At 8:30 a.m., about 15,000 PSE&G customers were without power due to icing on the utility’s equipment and on trees. Nearly 14,000 Jersey Central Power & Light customers were without electricity at 10:40 a.m
When called to the scene of a fire, firefighters bring many specialized tools with them. During the winter months, they bring a rather ordinary, but very important tool to fire calls -- a shovel. That’s because very often when they arrive, they find a fire hydrant is still buried in snow.
STATE -- State officials are advising New Jersey residents to exercise caution if they have to travel today.
STATE – Today’s winter storm, with precipitation switching from snow to sleet and freezing rain this morning, is causing delays on New Jersey roads. Speed restrictions are in place for the Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike and George Washington Bridge.
STATE – State officials are advising drivers to slow down and exercise caution during Tuesday morning’s “rush hour” commute. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for much of the state from late tonight through Wednesday evening.
STATE – According to a newly-released report by the New Jersey State Police, gangs are present in 45 percent of New Jersey’s municipalities. Nearly all of the state’s 566 municipalities responded to the survey, with only Elizabeth declining.

STATE – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for most of the state, which will remain in effect until 4 a.m. tomorrow morning. Snow is falling and creating slippery road conditions.
MIDDLESEX COUNTY -- Applications are now being accepted for the Middlesex County Youth Conservation Corps, whose mission is to protect and preserve natural areas from misuse, polluters and the forces of nature at the more than 7,000 acres of open space owned and maintained by Middlesex County.
