STATE — In the week ending Sept. 18, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 465,000, an increase of 12,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 453,000, according to data released today by the federal government.
ELIZABETH – According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Uniform Crime Report, 1,288 incidents of violent crime were reported in Elizabeth last year. That was a 14.6 percent increase from the 1,124 incidents reported in 2008, and a 56.5 percent increase from the 823 incidents in 2005.
