Cops Question Cuts

ELIZABETH – The city’s police chief has asked the school board how it can justify reducing the security budget for monitoring Elizabeth’s 5,000 high school students at a time when it got an injection of approximately $80 million in additional state aid.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway man (or is it vice versa?) is equipped with four speeds. There’s the prelude, where maybe we learn something about Driver; the complication, when he meets the gal; the ensuing crime drama; and then a power shift that throws us for a loop.

2011 Grammy® Winner To Perform At Kean

UNION – As part of her Chamber Music Society USA Fall Tour, Esperanza Spalding will perform in Union on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Kean University’s Wilkins Theatre. This year’s Grammy® Award winner for “Best New Artist,” Spalding blends classical and jazz to create modern chamber music with touches of folk and world sounds as well.
