Two Union County schools earn Blue Ribbons

Two Union County public schools are among nine in New Jersey that earned the Blue Ribbon designation for high student achievement and quality programs from the U.S. Department of Education.

Locally, Washington Elementary School in Westfield and Terence C. Reilly School No. 7 in Elizabeth received the impressive cognomen.

“Today, we congratulate the schools from New Jersey that have earned the U.S. Department of Education’s prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools award,” said New Jersey Education Commissioner Lamont O. Repollet, when the results were announced. “This recognition is conveyed to schools for overall academic achievement or for closing achievement gaps. Everyone in these communities should be proud of their efforts to improve the education for every child in their schools.”

Blue Ribbon Schools are honored at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., where each receives a plaque and flag to signify its exemplary status.
