McCormick says Democrats’ economic program works

Lisa McCormick says Democrats should trumpet the superiority of their economic programs, which have performed better for working families in America than the discredited and ineffectual policies primarily pushed by Republicans over the past 40 years.

“After the richest Americans’ wealth growth has increased by more than 200 percent while wages remained stagnant for the rest of us, we need to reject discredited supply side Reaganomics policies & return to a set of policies guided by Keynesian economics,” said McCormick in a Twitter post. “The #NewDeal worked!”

McCormick shared her call for action to leading presidential contenders including Sen. Bernie Sanders, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Kamala Harris, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, billionaire Tom Steyer, former Congressmen John Delaney and Beto ORourke, Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Gov. Steve Bullock, Stacey Abrams, Michael Bennet. NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio, Rep. Julian Castro, former Sen. Mike Gravel, Gov. Jay Inslee, Mayor Wayne Messam, and entrepreneur Andrew Yang.

“The argument that Democrats have a viable plan for putting America’s economy to work for people who work for a living is rooted in the simple fact that life got better for hundreds of millions of people over a period of generations as a result of the New Deal,” said McCormick. “Almost every middle class family has lost ground and tens of millions have been wiped out as a result of our failed experiment with supply-side economics.”

“Reaganomics was a con job, not a conservative engine for supercharging the economy,” said McCormick. “Reaganomics did not work as promised, but it did put the nation on course to run up a $37 trillion national debt without maintaining investments, so we have a crumbling infrastructure, a gulf of income inequality and a weaker union on the edge of civil war.”

“If tax cuts for the wealthy and corporate welfare create good jobs, then there would not be so many working class people struggling under a mountain of debt, low wages and a declining quality of life,” said McCormick. “By contrast, the Democratic New Deal lifted Americans out of the Great Depression, empowered us to defeat Fascism, build the richest and most powerful nation on the planet plus created a large, prosperous and growing middle class.”

McCormick was identified in The Hill — a newspaper published in Washington, D.C. — as the only candidate who has yet filed to run against Senator Cory Booker in the 2020 Democratic primary.

“McCormick took a surprisingly strong 38 percent of the vote against Sen. Bob Menendez (D) in the 2018 Democratic primary,” said the story.
