National Guard soldier robbed at gunpoint

A member of the New York Air National Guard Security Forces, was sitting in a parked vehicle in Elizabeth shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday when a man approached, opened the driver’s side door and robbed him at gunpoint.

The soldier’s wallet and military knapsack containing personal effects were taken.

The Union County prosecutor’s office said the victim retrieved his firearm from the car and confronted the suspect, leading to a brief exchange of shots before the suspect fled, dropping his weapon.

No injuries were reported and the suspect is being sought by Elizabeth police.
