American soldier died in Iraq, dozens of Africans killed by USA

US Army Spc. Avadon A. Chaves, 20, of Turlock, Calif., died Dec. 20 at Al
Asad, Al Anbar Province, Iraq, from a non-combat related incident.

Chaves was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade
Combat Team, Fort Bliss, Texas. The incident is under investigation, according
to Pentagon sources.

American military forces killed 13 people in Somalia on Christmas and another
100 people were slaughtered in another attack in Africa, according to Pentagon
sources.

US Defense Secretary Jams Mattis said American military troops are operating
in 53 African countries.

Recent polls show most Americans know very little about the dark continent and
the national interest in fighting there, even since questions emerged in the
wake of deaths of four US Special forces soldiers in Niger.
