Moshe Levi will discuss the Middle East realignment

Moshe Levi is The Jewish Agency’s Community Shaliach to the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest New Jersey.

On Thursday evening, July 13, 2017, at 7:30 p.m., Moshe Levi, the Jewish Agency’s Shaliach from Israel will discuss “Israel’s Friends and Foes: The 2017 Middle East Realignment.”

A shaliach is a member of the Chabad Hasidic movement who is sent out to promulgate Judaism and Hasidism in locations around the world.

In the face of Iranian aggression, several of the Gulf Arab states (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, etc.) have been quietly working with Israel behind the scenes in a new unspoken cooperation.

Since the outset of the Arab Spring, the entire region has been plagued by the political tumult that divided the Arab world into two flanks: Supporters of the aspirations of the countries experiencing revolutions and conspirators against the uprisings.

Many Arab rulers decided that the only way to survive and keep their thrones is by siding with the U.S. administration regardless of the repercussions.

Muslim and Arab countries fundamentally brushed aside his anti-Muslim rhetoric and instead focused on their overlapping interests with the new administration.

In January, Trump imposed a controversial ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Levi will explain the new Middle East realignment.  Who are Israel’s friends and foes?  What is Israel’s relationship like with the Gulf Arab states?  How are the peace treaties holding up with Egypt and Jordan?  What is Israel’s current relationship like with Russia?  India?  The United States under Donald Trump?

Moshe was born in Israel and grew up in Jerusalem. He served for three years as a medic in an infantry unit of the IDF, and he holds an MA in Comparative Religion from Hebrew University.

Dessert will be served. Cost is $10 for JCC members; $13 for non-members.

Please register before July 11. No Walk-ins.
