Roselle shooting deaths deemed murder-suicide

Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park has determined the Tuesday afternoon shooting in Roselle to be a murder-suicide.

Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park said two people were found fatally shot outside a home in Roselle Tuesday afternoon were determined to have been a murder-suicide.

Park said 49-year-old Dominick Richards of Roselle shot and killed 22-year-old Anishalee Cortes of Newark before taking his own life.

Roselle Police Department patrol units responding to the 900 block of Chestnut Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday found the bodies of Cortes and Richards. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force, Roselle Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies determined that Richards approached Cortes in the driveway of his home and fatally shot her before taking his own life.

A handgun was recovered from the scene. Autopsies for the deceased were scheduled for Wednesday.
