New Brunswick sailor aboard amphibious assault ship near Japan

Capt. Jeffery Ward, commanding officer of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), announced the ship’s newest Sailors of the Quarter during an all-hands call in the hangar bay.

Boatswain’s 2nd Class Dominic Mando, from New Brunswick, is Bonhomme Richard’s Junior Sailor of the Quarter.

USS Bonhomme Richard is a Wasp-class multi-purpose amphibious assault ship forward deployed to Sasebo, Japan. — on a mission is to embark, deploy and land elements of a Marine Landing Force in amphibious assault operations by helicopter, landing craft, amphibious vehicle or any combination thereof.

The ship is on a routine patrol in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to serve as a forward-capability for any type of contingency.

Forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, Bonhomme Richard is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.
