A Union Township man has been arrested and charged with fatally stabbing his father.
Jeff Adams, 20, is charged with murder and related weapons offenses in connection with the death of his father, Michael Adams who turned 59-years-old on April 1.
At around 11:45 a.m. on Monday, May 8 members of the Irvington Fire Department and Union Township police and fire personnel responded to a home on the 1500 block of Van Ness Terrace on a report of a house fire, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Melissa Spagnoli, who is prosecuting the case.
Inside the home, first responders found the victim, and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter, Spagnoli said.
Michael Adams is from Nigeria and Guerlande Adams, his wife, is from Haiti, according to neighbors.
Jeff Adams turned himself in to Union Police Department authorities early Monday afternoon, and he was lodged in Union County Jail. He is expected to have a first appearance in court later this week.
The investigation into this matter remains active, and anyone with information is being asked to contact Homicide Task Force Sgt. Michael Manochio at 908-966-2287.
Convictions on murder charges commonly result in terms of 30 years to life in state prison.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, according to Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.
