While skies were bright with sunshine Monday afternoon, weather forecasters predict a major storm starting tonight that may result in up to 4 inches of snow by Tuesday morning.
AccuWeather reports the major nor’easter threatens to shut down travel due to heavy snow and strong winds from Washington, D.C., to New York City and Boston as blizzard conditions develop in the northeastern United States.
The storm will continue to bring snow and travel problems in the Midwest, and up to 120 million people may be impacted by the fierce weather, as winter claims one last strike before surrendering to springtime.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for March 14, 2017 calling for a 12 – 20 inch accumulation of snow, with heaviest accumulation predicted from 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Tuesday.
High winds and cold temperatures are predicted for the entire period.
Mayor John E. McCormac announced that the special election scheduled for Tuesday, March 14 would be postponed until March 28, when polls will open from 2-8 p.m.
The special election referendum is seeking voter approval to establish a district-wide, full-day kindergarten, construct critical upgrades to antiquated schools, and enhance school security and network technology.
The Woodbridge Township Department of Public Works will collect Tuesday trash beginning at 10:00 PM tonight (Mon., March 13) – residents should place the green trash container at the curb by 10:00 PM tonight for early collection.
Residents should bring in the green trash container as soon as possible after collection to allow for street plowing. Wednesday trash collection has been moved to Thursday. Thursday recycling collection will be picked-up on Friday and Friday recycling collection is scheduled for Saturday.
Woodbridge Town Hall offices and services will remain open on Tues., March 14, 2017. The Woodbridge Municipal Court has cancelled the AM and PM court sessions for Tues., March 14, 2017. The AM court session for Wed., March 15, 2017 is also cancelled. The 1:00 PM and 6:45 PM court session(s) for Wed., March 15, 2017 remain scheduled. The Woodbridge Community Center has cancelled all programming for Tues., March 14, 2017, including Day Care and After Care sessions.
For many areas in the Northeast, this will likely be the biggest and most impactful storm of the winter.
Heavy snow over such a broad, heavily populated area could bring travel to a standstill. Snow and snow drifts will clogs streets and highways. Heavy snow and wind trigger will airline delays and flight cancellations. Some flights have already been canceled in advance of the storm.
