Lesniak calls for special prosecutor

A key Democrat on Monday pressed the state attorney general’s office to appoint a special prosecutor to handle an official misconduct criminal complaint lodged against Gov. Chris Christie last month for the governor’s alleged involvement in Bridgegate.

In a letter to Attorney General Christopher Porrino, state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union) called for an independent prosecutor to be appointed by state Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner.

In an email to supporters, Lesniak  said, “Sign my petition today http://raymondlesniak.com/specialprosecutor/ to ensure that Trenton passes my legislation to appoint a special prosecutor to hold Governor Christie accountable.”

Christie is due in court on Nov. 23 to answer charges of official misconduct.
