Trump’s choice of energy advisor signals environmental catastrophe

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has asked one of America’s most ardent drilling advocates and climate change skeptics to help him draft his energy policy.

“While no one expected Trump to run as an environmental champion, tapping Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) – a public official who says the Earth is cooling, not warming – to help write his energy policy proves just how out of touch he is,” said Janet Redman, Climate Policy Program Director at the Institute for Policy Studies.”

“Trump kicked off his campaign by playing on racism, xenophobia, and sexism,” said Redman. “Now he’s stoking the fears of Americans who see troubling changes in our climate and know it means big shifts in the way we do business.”

“That is scary,” said Redman. “And it’s exactly why we need a leader with a vision of a just transition to a clean energy economy and climate-resilient communities that leave no workers or families behind.”

Redman said “The only interests Trump’s climate denialism serves are the bank accounts of oil, coal, and gas company CEOs.”
