Ort Farms hosting ‘Seeing Eye Puppy Days’ this October

LONG VALLEY – This month, visitors to the family owned and operated Ort Farms are in for a special treat! The farm, best known for its corn maze, farm store and fun fall activities, has partnered with The Seeing Eye to host puppy days on Sunday, October 18, and Saturday, October 24.

Visitors on puppy days will be able to meet and pet puppies that will be trained by Seeing Eye to serve as guide dogs or service animals for disabled people. All Seeing Eye puppy raisers will get a special discount when they attend Seeing Eye puppy days.

“Support from area businesses, such as Ort Farms, is important in helping us raise the best Seeing Eye dogs,” said Seeing Eye President Jim Kutsch. “Seeing Eye dogs must be comfortable guiding their owners in a variety of environments and socializing our puppies is one of the most important jobs of a Seeing Eye puppy raiser.”

This fall, Ort Farms’ corn maze is in the shape of The Seeing Eye logo and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Seeing Eye mission to breed, raise and train dogs for people who are blind and visually impaired.

The farm is open to families all week with activities such as pumpkin picking, visiting with farm animals, a picnic area, and play areas for kids. On weekends, visitors can also enjoy train rides, pony rides, monster truck rides and a food tent.

Established in 1929, The Seeing Eye provides specially bred and trained dogs to guide people who are blind. Seeing Eye dog users experience greatly enhanced mobility and independence, allowing them to retain their active lifestyles despite blindness.

The Seeing Eye is a 501(c)3 non-profit supported by contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, bequests, and other planned gifts.

The Seeing Eye is a trademarked name and can only be used to describe the guide dogs bred and trained at the school’s facilities in Morristown, N.J.
