South Brunswick police officer shot, killed skunk.

South Brunswick Police Lieutenant James Ryan confirmed that an officer discharged a weapon two days ago, killing a sick skunk.

“I did locate a report for Monday April 27, 2015. In the report a police officer was called to a Shady Lane home after the Township Animal Control officer located a possibly rabid skunk,” said Ryan. “The police officer was required to shoot the skunk. The Animal Control officer then took possession of the skunk. The incident took place at 2pm.”

There was no word on whether the animal was infected with rabies but a recent report stated than more than 60 cases of the disease have been found in New Jersey, so far this year.
