“…fasten your seat belts…”

This year’s ‘Oscar’ race was anything but a sure thing…with the possible exception of one nomination…

That would be J.K. Simmons for best supporting actor in the film ‘Whiplash’…

Now granted, this is a movie that probably few have seen, and perhaps, few appreciate…I have finally gotten to see it, released recently on dvd, and i gotta tell ya’…not only did Mr. Simmons deserve his award, but, if you rent or purchase this film, bring a towel along, because you’ll be sweatin’ after watchin’ it…

It plays out like a two-man play…Simmons plays a music teacher…Miles Teller plays a drum student, who is much more than just a student…

He is going to be the next Buddy Rich, as far as he’s concerned, but he also knows that Simmons is not exactly the average teacher next door either…

This is New York, where only the finest get to play…and, as Simmons puts it…’…you don’t get to be ‘Bird’, just by playing like Charlie Parker…’

And he shows the kid how it’s done…with literal blood, sweat, and tears pouring off him and threw him like there were no tomorrow…because for many, there isn’t any…

And i won’t give away the entire storyline, because you do have to see this one for yourself, but be forewarned…Besides being put thru the ringer, you will also be subjected to a myriad of foul-language moments that may put off some of the more sensitive among you…

But…if you can make it thru till the end, it is a ride well worth it, that stays with you way past the rest stop…
