UNION, January, 2015 – The Gateway Family YMCA – Five Points Branch vocal students, led by Betty Rivera, shared their voices with some good old fashion caroling at The Cornell Hall Care Center, located on Chestnut Street in Union.
For many of the residents of the care center, it was an opportunity to celebrate the holidays as they would at home. The students visited the common room at The Cornell Hall Care Center. Patients and caregivers were entertained with traditional carols sung by the group. They were even invited to sing along!
“It was rewarding to see the faces of residents happily singing when normally they would not have the opportunity to do so”, said the vocal coach, Betty Rivera. “It was a privilege to be able provide that for them, for me personally the holiday season is my favorite time of the year and I feel as though many can agree. It’s the one time of the year for a month everyone can feel like a kid again. The pretty lights, the sharing of gifts, spending time with family, and most of all the cheerful Christmas Music. What better way for us to spread the Holiday Cheer than through caroling to those who need it most.” – Director Of Healthy Living, Thomas Galuppo. To quote a favorite holiday movies, ELF “The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear”.
