The drivers of two vehicles survived a fiery collision but a car passenger was killed in a crash that occurred around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, on the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth.
Both vehicles became engulfed in flame when a sedan collided with small dump truck near mile marker 99.5 of the southbound lane on the roadway near exit 13.
Elizabeth and Linden fire fighters were responding to the truck, which was fully engulfed in flames, when the car caught on fire killing a passenger inside.
According to state troopers, drivers of both vehicles were taken to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth with non-life threatening injuries.
Police investigating the crash have not yet identified the passenger who was fatally injured.
