REMEMBERING THE PAST: Polly’s Elizabeth Inn memories

Remembering the Past by Diane Norek HarrisonELIZABETH-The following memories are from William Johnson: “I have fond memories of having Sunday dinners at this establishment with my family in the 1950’s. We were from Staten Island and would take the ferry across the Kill Van Kull River or drive across the Goethals Bridge to Elizabeth.
I was between 5 and 10 years old but, vividly recall this large old house ( I think it had a mansard roof) with spacious rooms, marble mantles and heavy carved woodwork. The food was home cooked and must have been good for my family to go back there many times.
Polly was a gracious hostess with “done up” strawberry blonde hair, a lot of make up and usually wore a bright pastel suit.
I was wondering when she went out of business and when the house was unfortunately razed?”
