“…film’s not dead…”

There have been a slew of so-called ‘Christian’ movies out on the market lately, with many more slated for prime-time Hollywood release…

Some have been good (the composite ‘Son Of God’ from the tv mini-series ‘The Bible’), and some not-so-much (the truly awful ‘Noah’)…

And just recently released on dvd is one from the PureFlix group called ‘God’s Not Dead’…

Now…I like PureFlix…I like David White, who is an actor in many of these films, as well as one of the ones who runs PureFlix…

I also like Kevin Sorbo, who has been in some really good ‘Christian’ films, including ‘What If’…But what went wrong with ‘God’s Not Dead’?…not much…and so much…

As entertainment, just watch and enjoy…pretty harmless stuff, except for the inclusion of one of the ‘Duck Dynasty’ characters who should never have been included…

But…as ‘Christian’ introspection…first of all, the so-called ‘hero’ of the film, seems like he could use a triple-espresso to wake him up…(certainly not the one I would back in this ‘battle’…)…then there are the ‘stereotypes’, which are so many I won’t list them all here…but most of all, the ‘sanctimonious’ way that they try and deliver their message…sort of ‘If not One, then none’…Hypocritical to say the least…

The good news…Newsboys, whose hit song was used for the title, appear in the film performing that song (along with a wee bit of acting)…It’s the only place where the movie lifts beyond its own importance…

So don’t skip ‘Christian’ films altogether…there are plenty still to come and some have their moments…just don’t spend too many on this one…
