PERTH AMBOY — A city resident is behind bars, charged with sexually assaulting girls in Ocean and Middlesex counties. Fernando Madrigal, 42, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at his Smith Street home and charged with multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato and South Toms River Police Chief Andrew Izatt said the 42-year-old man sexually assaulted two girls, ages 11 and 14, and that both victims knew their attacker.
Madrigal is charged with sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors say additional charges have been filed against Madrigal for an alleged assault on a minor in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County. Madrigal remains behind bars in Middlesex County in lieu of $570,000 bail.
