Anthony Fuentes, 27 of Rahway, allegedly told a Westfield 911 dispatcher that he wanted to hang himself, according to Perth Amboy police officials.

Perth Amboy police officers released the name of a Rahway man after they prevented him from committing suicide at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.

Lieutenant Luis Armas, station commander at the time, heard a transmission from Westfield Police through the New Jersey State Police emergency radio network warning that a suicidal male wanted to hang himself on a pier in Perth Amboy or South Amboy.

Armas initiated a citywide search of all piers bridges, and waterfront areas and officers Alexy Mendez, Rene Harris, and Miguel Garcia discovered Anthony Fuentes, 27 of Rahway, at the pier near Madison Avenue and Sadowski Parkway.

Authorities say Fuentes told a Westfield dispatcher that he wanted to hang himself and a message on his Facebook page said, “It took a lot but … this is goodbye … I have my reasons. My close friends know it.. I love you all. Mom… I’m sorry.”

Ironically, the man’s Facebook moniker is “Anthony Alive Fuentes.” Fuentes was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center for treatment. A message posted to his Facebook page at about noon after he was committed the the hospital stated, “They are taking my phone.”

An outpouring of support came from friends who posted messages of encouragement.
