RAHWAY – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway has elevated two members of its leadership team to the position of vice president and named an interim Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer.
Named to the new position of Vice President Clinical Effectiveness is Catherine Goodheart, RN, MPA, who had served as the hospital’s Director of Quality Improvement. Ms. Goodheart has executive oversight for quality improvement, resource management and medical management at the acute-care hospital.
Goodheart, a Rahway resident, has been with the hospital for 35 years. RWJ Rahway consistently ranks in the top 20 percent of New Jersey hospitals in patient safety and quality. “Cathy Goodheart has done an outstanding job in her role and I look forward to her continued leadership,” said Kirk Tice, President and CEO of the hospital.
The new position of Vice President, Strategy and Market Development is held by Michael Maiale, who had served as Director of Market Development. His oversight includes strategic planning, business development, physician relations and marketing, as well as Laboratory, Radiology and Rehabilitation Services.
RWJ Rahway is undergoing a multimillion dollar renovation that includes creating a new Center for Ambulatory Services on the hospital campus, which includes Lab, Radiology and Wound Care with hyperbaric oxygen therapy services. “Mike Maiale has been with RWJ Rahway for two years and has done a great job at advancing the hospital’s strategy,” said Tice.
Ann Marie Shears, RN, MA, NE-BC, has assumed the position of Acting Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer.
Shears, a Denville resident, has executive oversight for all nursing functions, EMS and Emergency Management, as well as Pharmacy Services. She had served as Director of Nursing Operations.
“It was apparent to me that this was an appropriate time to evaluate how the organization was structured to position RWJ Rahway for the changes in health care. I am excited for the future and look forward to further strengthening the hospital for continued success,” Tice said.
Founded in 1917, RWJ Rahway is a member of the Robert Wood Johnson Health System, which includes Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital New Brunswick and Hamilton, Children’s Specialized Hospital and now Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
