Banned books film series starts August 18

The Springfield Free Public Library Lunchtime Film Series presents the first film in its “Banned Books Week” series on Monday, August 18 at 1 pm.

Banned Books Week is a national event celebrating the importance of reading and the freedom of the First Amendment. First launched in 1982, it was held in response to an increase in the number of books challenged by schools, libraries and bookstores.

The first in the series of film versions of literary classics that have been challenged or banned, in honor of the Freedom to Read Foundations’s observance of Banned Books Week in September.

Call the Library at (973)376-4930 for more information about the films. Admission is free. Bring a brown bag lunch or enjoy light refreshements served at 12:30 pm.
