RAHWAY — Councilman Robert Bresenhan, Jr. and Rolando B. Ceniza were married Saturday, June 28, in a garden wedding ceremony officiated by Mayor Samson Steinman.
“June 28, is a very special day for our union,” said Bresenhan, who explained that a member of the clergy officiated over a June 28, 2003 marriage that has been unrecognized by the state of New Jersey.
Bresenhan said he and his spouse spent many years fighting for marriage equality.
“This day and marriage license from the state of New Jersey and the City of Rahway has been a long time coming,” said Bresenhan. “Roland and I were there by then Gov. Jon Corzine’s side as he signed the Civil Union law in December 1, 2006 in Trenton.”
Ceniza, a United States citizen of Philippine heritage, is a registered nurse in the cardiac catheterization field at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell. The couple makes their home with two furry children Rosie and Buster, Yorkshire terriers.
