Clark’s only council Democrat died after primary election heart attack

CLARK — Councilman Richard P. Kazanowski passed away suddenly, on Tuesday June 3, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Rahway.

Kazanowski, 61, was husband for 34 years of Lori Kazanowski (nee Deutchman),  father of Patricia and Richard Kazanowski, grandfather of Christian Kazanowski, whom he has raised like his own son, and brother of Stella Tylicki (Walter), Irene Blewis (Jack), and the late Stanley Kazanowski as well as brother in law of Dr. Eric Deutchman (Linda).

When informed that Kazanowski, the lone Democrat on the township council, died, Mayor Sal Bonaccorso said, “It’s a sad day, a sad day for the township.”

Kazanowski suddenly became sick at his wife’s real estate office on Tuesday, the day when he was a candidate in the Democratic primary election, and he was transported to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in Rahway.

Relatives and friend attended his funeral on Saturday June 7, from the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home 211 Westfield Ave., Clark, to St. John the Apostle R.C. Church, Linden, where a Mass of Christian Burial was offered prior to interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Born in Newark, to Apolinary and Kunegunda Kazanowski, he was raised in Irvington and has resided in Clark since 1980. Mr. Kazanowski attended Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science from 1970-1973. He worked as an IT senior customer service engineer for Xerox Corp. of Morris Plains from 1973-2006 and the Clark & South Plainfield Adult School computer repair instructor from 1997-2002 and from 2006-present he was an computer and network IT consultant. Mr. Kazanowski was a coach for the Clark Soccer Club for many years and past committee person of St. John’s cub scout pack.

Mr. Kazanowski was a current member of the Clark Democratic Club 1992-Present, a member of the Citizen Budget Advisory Board 1992, board member of the Clark Zoning Board of Adjustments 1992. He was appointed as Third Ward Councilman from 1993-1994, Chairman of Clark Zoning Board of Adjustment 1994-1998, President of the Clark Democratic Club 1996-2000, he was elected Third Ward Councilman 1998-2002, Council President 1999, elected Third ward Councilman 2006-2010, re-elected Third Ward Council 2010-Present, and was Vice Chairman of the Clark Pool, which is voted by Clark Town Council 2012-Present.
