Jazzville Skyline: “…for Maya…”

by Rocky-o

I just heard the news that Maya Angelou has passed away…

The minute I heard, I thought about this poem that I wrote for one of my previous books, “naked under steam”…When you read it below, it will become obvious why I thought of this one, with respect to the use of one of her titles within the piece…

I was also reminded of one recent sunday, when a member of our church worship team recited that very piece I borrowed the title from…it was an amazing moment of thought and clarity…

And for those who knew about Ms. Angelou, personally or simply through her works, she had a heart for God and the thought and clarity His words inspired in her…

May there be those in waiting…
objects are closer than they appear

within this coffee cup i find the dreams and speculations of
a million proclamations that have crossed within my mind a
million times or so…blessed truths and intentions of gates that
swing open and places worth knowing and things that have yet
to be showing themselves to be…revealed in my eyes or in my
dreams these things that i see near as i hear your words so clear
within the spirit of my ear that i may know i know…’cause i know…
i know the subtle changes and the constant rearranging and just
why the caged bird sings and all the things you’ve shown me so…
to close my eyes and stare is but to see and be aware of the
between that i’ve already come to know…and though my soul is
open i retain all that is certain from the knowing and the showing
of the steam that’s being offered from this simple cup of coffee
that is standing right before me that i know…

…peace and pages always…
