Rahway’s Taste of Spring, one of the top annual restaurant and gourmet food marketing events in the metropolitan area, will be held on Friday, April 11, from 5:30-9 p.m.

Extensive damage to the Rahway Recreation Center caused by Superstorm Sandy forced the cancellation of the Rahway Taste of Spring in 2013.

This year, Rahway Arts District announced the 14th annual Taste of Spring returns to the Rahway Recreation Center at 275 E. Milton Ave. The 2014 event will be bigger and better than ever before.

The Rahway Taste of Spring features the culinary delights of more than 40 regional food establishments, interspersed with more than 30 individual tasting stations of fine wine, aperitifs, and boutique beer, presented by national companies and distributors.

This 18,000-square-foot event features familiar and exotic cuisines from around the globe.

From all-American favorites to the flavors of Cuba, Peru, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Japan, Ireland, and specialty cuisines, such as seafood, BBQ, soul food, and fusion blends, there is something for all tastes.

Many venues will also be offering signatures cocktails, fine wine, award-winning liquors, aperitifs, and craft beer.

Renowned area bakeries will serve up bite-size sweets such as mini cupcakes, New York-style cheesecake, chocolates, and regional delicacies, such as exquisite French macaroons and petit-four, luscious Portuguese custard cups, fresh Italian cannoli, flaky Greek baklava, and much more.

Top tri-county food vendors offer delectable samples of their best recipes and compete for a spot in the 2014 Chefs’ Winners’ Circle in eight categories, including best appetizer, entrée, side dishes, ethnic, pasta, bakery and frozen desserts, and table presentation. The Tasters Choice Award is decided by attending guests.

Live entertainment featuring talented Rahway area musicians creates a festive and fun atmosphere. In between sips and snacks, guests can also browse displays and booths from local organizations, merchants, artists, and sponsors as well as a car display by Miller Buick.
Attendees are asked to support the Taste of Spring canned food drive by bringing an unopened boxed or canned food item.

The public is invited to purchase tickets in advance, as tickets are limited.

Tickets are $30 before 3 p.m., on Friday, April 11 and $40 at the door (between 6-7:15 p.m.). For tickets, visit Metro Liquors in Linden, Pinho’s Bakery of Roselle, and in Rahway, Witty’s Liquors, Beana’s Mexican Restaurant, Rahway Rec Center, or Union County PAC. The 2014 Rahway Taste of Spring is presented by Rahway Arts District, RSI Bank, Metro Rahway, and Northfield Bank, and sponsored by Witty’s Liquors, Metro Liquors, Meridia Water’s Edge, Miller Buick, ERA Village Green, and TD Bank.
