Polish American beauties sought for parade

LINDEN — St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church is now accepting applications for candidates to represent the city’s General Pulaski Memorial Parade contingent as the 2014 Miss Polonia and Junior Miss Polonia.

Candidates will be required to submit a short essay along with the application form indicating why they would like to have the honor of representing the city and St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church as the 2014 Miss Polonia and Junior Miss Polonia.

The essay should also include information about the candidate’s Polish heritage. Candidates for Miss Polonia should be aged between 16 and 22 yrs. old and Junior Miss Polonia candidates should be 8-15 years old.

Upon fulfilling their obligation, Miss Polonia and Junior Miss Polonia will also receive a monetary scholarship.

The application deadline is March 1, 2014 and interested candidates may obtain an application by calling Councilwoman Michele Yamakaitis at (908) 925-2309.

Pulaski Day, established in 1929, is held every year on Oct. 11 to commemorate General Casimir Pulaski, a Polish hero of the American Revolution who died from wounds suffered at the Siege of Savannah in 1779, and to honor the heritage of Polish Americans.
