UNION TOWNSHIP - A man was charged with multiple counts of possession after a cache of handguns and explosive materials were found by police in his Union Township home and his car.

Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park said additional charges pending against Alfred Intrabartolo, 62, who was arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a destructive device

Intrabartolo is being held at the Union County jail in lieu of $250,000 cash-only bail.

Following an investigation into small, low-grade explosive devices that were set off in a neighborhood near the Route 22 corridor in Union last week, police set up surveillance in the area and identified Intrabartolo as he allegedly tossed a large firecracker out of his moving vehicle.

After Intrabartolo was arrested, police found a loaded .32-caliber handgun and explosive materials in his car.

Police said subsequent search of the suspect’s Girard Place home by the Union County Bomb Squad, the county HAZMAT team, Union Township Police Department, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, turned up two additional handguns, a shotgun, and additional low-grade explosive materials and gunpowder.
