CLARK — Kelly Williamson’s fifth grade class at Valley Road Elementary in Clark has been studying how to collect and organize data. Last week, the students participated in an activity to collect sample size data. The students sorted ten M & Ms to record the amount they had in each color. The students used this small sample size to predict how many of each color M & M would be in the bowl of candy. The students were able to conclude that some of their samples were a good guide to use when predicting the amount of each color in the bag. However, some students felt that their sample was not a helpful tool to rely on when estimating the amount of each color M & M in the bowl. The students then used their data from their sample of ten M & Ms to construct a circle graph. The students will continue to learn different ways to organize data next week.
