CLARK — Mrs. Vaccari, a science teacher at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark, is using a stream table to model the impact that changes in local land due to development and loss of wetlands has upon rainfall and flooding. The simulation enables students to draw inferences that relate rate of precipitation and surface features to both filling and drainage times. Such activities are an integral part of the environmental program at ALJ, which places an emphasis on science literacy and the ability to way benefits/consequences of human interactions with surrounding earth systems.
