WESTFIELD — Over 70 students of Gedman’s Black Belt Academy at the Westfield Area Y advanced to their next belt rank at the Dec. 14 belt testing at the Robert and Virginia Bauer Family Branch. Students ages 5 to 50 tested for orange through third degree black belts.

Gedman’s Black Belt Academy of the Westfield Area Y offers weekday evening and Saturday morning classes at the Bauer Branch. The program is recognized by the American Tae Kwon Do Association and emphasizes self-confidence, leadership skills and physical fitness. Each class is taught by a team of certified ATA instructors under the leadership of fourth degree black belt, Chief Instructor Pamela Gedman.

The Y is offering one free trial introductory class for children and adults this January. Options for the free trial class for children are: Monday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. or Saturday, Jan. 11 at 9:30 a.m. Options for the free trial class for adults are: Monday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. or Saturday, Jan.11 at 8:30 a.m. All trial classes are being offered at the Bauer Branch.
