PERTH AMBOY — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy hosted “Toys for Joy,” its inaugural toy giveaway in collaboration with Edison Jaquez, who donated all the toys to bring joy and cheer to local children.
“The holidays are a time for sharing, giving and not receiving and most importantly love our neighbors,” said Tashilee Vazquez, chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Perth Amboy (BGCPA), whose staff and students worked hard to pull the event together.
Santa and his elf, also known as Emmanuel Nieves and Newminn Illarraza, two BGCPA participants who donated their time, said they do it to see the kids smile. They were joined by other BGCPA staff and students, B-Men participants and local volunteers who helped distribute toys and snacks, take pictures with Santa, and entertain the families.
Jacquez, the B-men founder and local Perth Amboy resident who collected and donated over 150 toys, made the event possible. He shared that as a child his Christmases may not have always been so bright had it not been for individuals who gave from their hearts, so he vowed to one day be able to give to others as others gave to him.
