CLARK — Jacqualena Grigoli’s kindergarten class at Valley Road School in Clark celebrated the theme of sharing for the month of November.
Grigoli hosted an activity called “Thanks Sharing.” Each student and their family shared some of their favorite activities, crafts, and recipes with the other students in the class. They learned how to make sweet potatoes with marshmallows and how to make turkeys out of cupcakes, cookies, cups, hands, and paper bags. One student showcased his reading skills, while another showcased her gymnastic skills. The month long event was a huge success, Grigoli said.
To culminate the unit on sharing, Grigoli shared the book she wrote, “Jacqualena’s Pizzeria,” with the class and their families. This book explains the steps needed to make a pizza. Grigoli also invited her father, Jake Grigoli, who is a pizza expert from Nicola’s Pizzeria in Somerset. This is the third year in a row Mr. Grigoli has dedicated his time and pizza making skills to enhance the sharing event in Ms. Grigoli’s class.
Mr. Grigoli showed the students step by step how to make their own pizza. Students folded their own pizza boxes, flattened their dough into circles, sprinkled flour, added sauce, and sprinkled cheese. Each student in the class was able to bring their pizza home with cooking instructions.
To finish the activity, the class and the parent volunteers enjoyed some fresh warm pizza from Nicola’s Pizzeria. This is a well-liked tradition at Valley Road School and attracts the administrators of the district. Kenneth Knops, Clark superintendent and Joseph Beltramba, principal at Valley Road School, both participated in the event.
