Report: Homeowner Charged With Assaulting Police During Attempt To Reach Burning Building

WESTFIELD – A 50-year-old township woman who is one of the owners of the Wychwood Gatehouse allegedly bit and kicked police officers Friday evening when they prevented her from going towards the burning building, according to a Westfield Patch report.

Cortney Schael, 50, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct and obstructing the administrator pursuant to a fire investigation, according to the report.

The fire, which was determined to be accidental, damaged the local landmark but a building inspector believed the home would be repairable.
