METUCHEN – School officials issued a safety alert after a man was arrested when several middle school students witnessed “lewdness” as they walked home from school on Dec. 4, according to an NJ.com report.

The incident occurred on Division Street and was witnessed by several students from Edgar Middle School, according to the report. There was “no contact with the students whatsoever,” according to Superintendent Vincent Caputo.

The school district issued the alert to ask parents to “reinforce all necessary precautions with their children.”

“Please encourage your children to tell you or us about situations where they are uncomfortable or have concerns, including if they are approached by strangers,” the alert said.
