UNION COUNTY — Cierra Kaler-Jones, a Galloway Township native, shared her time with The Arc of Union County during the preparation and weeks leading up to the organization’s 9th Annual Tricky Tray Fundraising Event held on Nov. 1.
Kaler-Jones, a proponent of social media, reached out to her friends, family, and community contacts for donations that could be added to the creation of Tricky Tray gift baskets. She came through with a car load of donations.
From those and other gifts collected by volunteers and Arc families throughout the year, 300 baskets were created for the popular event. On the night of the affair, as ticket numbers were pulled and read, Kaler-Jones ‘ran’ baskets to the winning guests.
When asked about her experience volunteering with The Arc of Union County Kaler-Jones commented, “It was amazing to meet people who were excited about giving back to the community. It is always great to step outside of oneself and to help with a great cause.”
Since high school, Kaler-Jones has been involved with the Miss America Pageant. This past summer, she entered and won the crown of Miss Coastal Shore. In June 2014 Kaler-Jones plans to compete for the title of Miss New Jersey, a preliminary to the Miss America Pageant which awards scholarships to young women.
Kaler-Jones currently attends Rutgers University majoring in Social Work and Criminal Justice with a concentration in women’s and minority studies. Her goal is to become a public defender and to help those who may not have a voice.
