HILLSIDE – Councilman Jorge Batista, who finished third in the Nov. 5 election, is backing Mayor Joe Menza in the Dec. 3 runoff race, according to a PolitickerNJ report.
Menza has the backing of Republican Gov. Chris Christie, while Batista had the support of former Union County Democratic Party leader Charlotte DeFilippo, who is still chair of the local party.
“I absolutely deny supporting Menza,” DeFilippo told PolitickerNJ. “If Jorge Batista endorses Menza, he does it without the support of the Democratic Party.”
Angela Garretson, who has the support of Democratic power broker state Senator Raymond Lesniak, will face Menza in the runoff election.
