police-tapePERTH AMBOY – Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Tuesday morning on the 400 block of Park Avenue.

The victim was waiting on his porch for a ride to work shortly before 5 a.m. on Nov. 12 when he saw a blue four-door Toyota or Honda park in front of a nearby residence. Two Hispanic men got out of the vehicle and approached the victim, he told police. One of the men pulled out a black handgun and placed it against the victim’s chest while demanding money.

The victim handed over $30 in cash, and the robber racked the gun as if he was going to shoot. The victim then suspected that the gun was not a real firearm because of the sound it made. The victim grabbed the weapon, which turned out to be a pellet gun, and the suspects fled the area.

Two other suspects, also identified as Hispanic men, remained in the van.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to call Detective Jessica DeJesus at 732-324-3822.

The Perth Amboy Police Department does not recommend that citizens fight with any suspect who produces any type of weapon.
