RAHWAY — The Rahway Police Department and the Union County Homicide Task Force are continuing to investigate a weekend homicide that took place outside a Rahway nightclub , acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Tuesday. Union County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of a suspect.

It was shortly after 3:05 a.m. Sunday when officers responding to a call of shots fired in the area of the Breathless nightclub on the 800 block of Hart Street in Rahway encountered the homicide victim, 27-year-old Jorge Torres of Newark, according to Homicide Task Force Supervisor Michael Henn. Torres, who suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, was found in a vehicle parked outside the bar’s entrance, Henn said.

A subsequent investigation revealed that multiple fights reportedly broke out in the Breathless parking lot around closing time, after which gunshots were heard. Investigators are continuing to process evidence and interview witnesses.

Anyone with information about the death of Mr. Torres, or anyone who was at the Breathless nightclub Saturday night into early Sunday morning, is being urged to contact Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Andrew M. Dellaquila at 973-274-5771. A reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment is also being offered by the Union County Crime Stoppers; tips can be given anonymously by phone at 908-654-TIPS (8477), via text message by texting “UCTIP” and a message to 274637 (CRIMES), or online at www.uctip.org.
