Perth Amboy Man Charged With Breaking Into Church Donation Box

PERTH AMBOY – A 47-year-old city man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly broke into donation boxes at Saint Stephens Church on State Street, police said.

Darion Avrette was apprehended by Officer Stephen Petrosino and Sergeant Andy Montalvo inside the church after police received a report of a burglary in progress.

Judge Emery Toth set  Avrette’s bail at $60,000 with no 10% option. According to police, other charges are pending. Detective Gilberto Simao is conducting the investigation.

The charges against Avrette are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
