SOUTH AMBOY-While looking up family information on the United States Federal 1940s Census, I was surprised to find the following listed:

Listed as Great Beds Light Station, it is the Great Beds Lighthouse as we know it.

Pictured is part of an old postcard, of the Great Beds Lighthouse, that was given to me many years ago.

Incorporated Place-South Amboy City
Ward of City 1
Division of County- Perth Amboy

Listed is Thomas Walker, which can only be assumed he was the Lighthouse Keeper. Head of Household, 41 years old and place of birth Rhode Island.

Lily, wife was 43 years old. Place of Birth was Massachusetts.

The lighthouse can be viewed from the waterfronts in South Amboy and Perth Amboy.

This column is dedicated to John V. Burns, a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy who passed away in September. Mr. Burns was a contributor to my column for many years.
