NEW BRUNSWICK—State Theatre will present Hungarian Rhapsody featuring the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. The performance features a troupe of dancers and live authentic music by the Gipsy Orchestra and the Hungarian Folk Orchestra. Tickets range from $27-57.
The Hungarian Rhapsody program will feature solos, duets, and ensemble dances, including the Csárdás and the Bottle Dance. Both the dancers and musicians will be attired in traditional Hungarian costumes.
Regarded as one of the best folk ensembles in Hungary, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble has been in existence for more than 50 years and has performed in 44 countries across four continents. The ensemble aims to preserve traditional Hungarian culture by sharing authentic folk music, dances, and costumes with a wide variety of audiences.
The ensemble’s shows are all based off of authentic dances, some of which were collected from isolated villages with dance elements dating back hundreds of years. The extraordinary folk music that inspired Liszt, Bartók, and Kodály is put on stage by both the Hungarian Folk Orchestra and the world-famous Gipsy Orchestra. The music is brought to life using authentic, traditional Hungarian instruments that are rarely heard today.
