LINDEN – Police investigating a reported fight last week arrested a 28-year-old Linden man with an imitation Glock 26 gun, authorities said.
Linden police officers responded to the 800 block of Gilchrist Avenue at 1:59 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. A group began to disperse, but an officer noticed Devon Jarome Candia hold something in his waistband as he walked away.
The officer stopped Candia and frisked him, believing he may have a weapon, authorities said. The officer found a a BB gun made to resemble a Glock 26 firearm, according to police. Candia reportedly told the officer he was using it to shoot at animals.
Candia was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of an imitation firearm. At headquarters, Candia was also found to have contempt warrants out of Linden, Elizabeth, Plainfield, and Newark. He was being held on $7,500 bail on the weapons charges, and another $7,300 bail on the warrants.
The charges against Candia are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
